Sunday Sandwich Makers

If you happen by the St. Peter’s kitchen on the third Sunday of the month, you will find a somewhat chaotic group of “chefs” at work--a dedicated group of children (and a few adults) assembling bologna and cheese sandwiches for the men of the Sunshine Ministries.  While our assembly line might not be the most efficient in the industry, we manage to make approximately 220 sandwiches (22 loaves of Bunny Bread) each session.  The St. Peter’s Sandwich Makers have provided thousands of sandwiches to the Sunshine Ministries!

Our volunteers are from the 2nd through 8th grade Church School classes.  They don plastic gloves and devise efficient ways to build and bag the sandwiches.  Some of our younger volunteers also package cookies to supplement the lunches.  Parishioners donate the supplies for this program.

The food goes to the Sunshine Ministries located at 1520 N. 13th Street in St. Louis.  The Sunshine Ministries offers shelter to homeless men, and also provides rehabilitation and transitional programs for men in the St. Louis community.   In a letter of thanks for our contributions, Carol Clarkson, an administrator of the Sunshine Mission, writes, “ Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness and generosity in providing the sandwiches for our shelter guests.  They definitely enjoy them!  We appreciate your partnership in ministry and compassion for those in need."

Extra helping hands are always welcome. Come, join us!
